Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings. It usually falls in the months of August or September and is widely celebrated, especially in the Indian states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

The festival typically lasts for 10 days, starting on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. During this period, elaborate clay idols of Lord Ganesha are installed in homes and public pandals (temporary structures), where devotees offer prayers, sing hymns, and perform rituals to seek blessings for prosperity and well-being.

One of the key rituals involves the prana pratishtha (invocation of life) of the Ganesha idol, followed by the aarti (ritual of worship with lamps), offerings of sweets like modak (a favorite of Lord Ganesha), and the chanting of mantras. The festival concludes with the immersion (visarjan) of the Ganesha idols in water bodies, symbolizing the return of Ganesha to his celestial abode.
